AMC Theater History

During the 1920's, AMC Theater's started as a family business in the Midwest to a tent show performer named Edward Dubinsky, who then settled in Kansas City and opened his first movie theater.  By the 1950's, he already owned over a dozen drive-ins and theaters.  After his death in 1960, his son Stanley took over the family's business.  Stanley Durwood began remodeling large single-screen Kansas City theaters into smaller buildings with multiple auditoriums.  This resulted in the World's first multiplex theater.  From a family owned business to one of the nation's most recognizable entertainment companies, AMC continued to push for new innovations to enhance guest's experiences.  Furthermore, Durwood's multi-screen theater chain had expanded nationwide and was incorporated as American Multi-Cinema, Inc. (AMC).
